Loro Ciuffenna
Province of Arezzo, Toscana

Loro Ciuffenna is on the slopes of the Pratomagno mountain at an elevation of 320m (~1,050 ft.). The original route into town was over a Roman bridge, one of the seven along the route. Much of the town center is medieval in architecture, and there is a water-powered mill, dating to before 1200 AD, which still produces chestnut and other flours.
Loro Ciuffenna became a permanent settlement in the 4th century AD. This is the same period as the original structure which the current church, La Gropina (current structure dates to the 9th century AD), is built on. The belltower at La Gropina dates back to the early 1200s.

How to get to Loro Ciuffenna using public transport
Arriving from Roma:
Catch the train from Roma Termini to either Montevarchi or to Arezzo and then take a Lazzi bus to Loro Ciuffenna.
Arriving from Firenze:
Catch the train from Firenze to Montevarchi and then take a Lazzi bus to Loro Ciuffenna.
How to get there from the Autostrada del Sole (A1 -
Firenze/Roma)

Leave the Autostrada at the Valdarno exit, approx. 40 km south of Firenze. Follow signs to the village of Loro Ciuffenna, approx. 8 km. (Note: you'll go through two small towns, Terranuova Bracciolini first and then, Penna [a very small town],
before reaching Loro Ciuffenna.
Once you reach the top of the hill, after Penna, you will come to a roundabout, take the turning to the right and follow the road down the hill. As you go around the corner you will see the beautiful Medieval village of Loro Ciuffenna in front of you. As you get to the turning into Loro Ciuffenna you will have a choice of turning left first into a big carpark at the base of the village or take the next turning which will bring you up into the centre of the town.

Loro Ciuffenna is approximately 48km from Firenze and 28km from Arezzo. The nearest bigger town (Montevarchi) is only 12km from Loro Ciuffenna and is easily accessed by a regular bus service.

From Montevarchi it is only a short train ride to Firenze heading north and south to Arezzo, and Cortona, or onto Roma.
